What is Trauma Informed Coaching

TRAUMA-INFORMED COACHING HAS FOUR KEY OPERATIONAL GOALS:

  • Comprehension: realize the widespread impact of trauma and understand paths for recovery;

  • Recognition: Knowing the signs and symptoms of trauma in patients, families, and staff;

  • Integration: Implementing knowledge about trauma into policies, procedures, and practices; and

  • Protection: Actively avoid re-traumatization.

TRAUMA-INFORMED COACHING PRINCIPLES â€‹

  1. Safety – Trauma-informed coaching focuses on a client's safety first and foremost and maintains that level of security over the duration of our coaching relationship.

  2. Trustworthy and Transparent - Trauma-informed coaching does not put down clients with difficulties trusting but understand it’s a consequence of their trauma. Instead, they are very transparent with their policies and actions, working to gain their client’s trust.

  3. Peer Support – Trauma-informed coaching creates a space that is safe, supportive, non-judgmental and equality between coach and client.

  4. Empowerment, Voice & Choice - Trauma-informed coaching helps clients find their purpose, restore their ability to choose, discover their voice and empower them to maintain power and control over their lives.

  5. Societal & Generational - Trauma-informed Coaching does recognize that all clients come from different cultures, history or have different beliefs. We seek to understand so as coaches we can develop a treatment plan that is individualized.
